Hi guys, I have a 1998 mazda b2500 and i have a problem switching my air from defrost to anything else. On those hot days defrost isnt cutting it. I need it to blow in my face. Anything will help thanks again.
how easy is it to locate the switch and what would i have to take off to get to it. I have taken out the radio and dont see much. I dont want to get to taking alot of things off if i dont have to.
Sounds like you have a bad vaccum check valve or have lost vaccum to the switch.you need to find a diagram of the vaccum system to find the problem.you might get the dealership to let you look at theirs.when there is no vaccum to the switch it goes to the default possition (defrost).
Look under the dash and you will see two vacuum motors. One with a long arm (Panel/Floor control)on it and one with a short arm(defrost door control). There are vacuum hoses connected to them and they are controled by the control switch on the dash. With the engine running pull the hose and turn the control to different positions you will should feel the vacuum with your finger over the end of the hose. If its there the the vacuum motor is bad. Most likely you have a vacuum leak somewhere.

To answer you question;
To get to the control switch, pull the radio, a couple of screws on the bottom of the black trim piece, pull trim off( it has a couple of clips that pull loose), then 4 screws that hold to control on.
