Harmonic Vibration
Ford test drove and comfirmed the vibration. In fact they had another 2000 Explorer Limited with the exact same problem that they had taken apart the drive lines and replaced wheels/tires etc. and found nothing wrong. They called in the local Ford Tech Rep in with a vibration analyzer and she said it is the front differential. They replaced the other guys and say the problem is gone, so they will replace mine next week.
I am curious to know if any others are having similar problems. I do not think that some people can hear or feel this vibration. Some people riding with me do not hear or feel it---even when I point it out.
Thanks

In the mean time he had hooked his equipment up to some other comparable Explorer' for some base line data. Turns out my Explorer is best one tested so far. And the other guy's is better than the base line vehicles...So they say. I still am getting the same vibration at 73 mph...however it is no were near as bad. The other guy main complaint according to Ford is rear view mirror vibation. They seem to think it is normal and OK.
Ford was very good about addressing this issue with us. They allowed me to inspect the gear set ( I am a gear cutter/inspector by trade) and both axels were sent back to Ford (and I assume Dana) for analysis.
BUT....BEWARE it's up to YOU to call them on it.
PS. My opinion(guess)is that the axel housing was not within machining tolerances which caused a slight mis-alignment in the gear set that caused the vibrations. The tooth contact pattern was very broad and washed out in the contact area.
