Leak Down????

Just changed my fuel filter & now it takes longer to start the engine!! Went back to the parts store & got another filter & swapped it out & still it takes twice as long to start, like it was leaking fuel pressure, but there are no fumes or liquid to be found. The filter is a standard replacement & is installed in the right direction too. When I released the fuel pressure from the fuel rail & the the filter came out, could that cause the fuel pump and/or fuel pressure regulator to malfunction? Truck runs great once it warms up. Any Ideas???

You need to check the fuel pressure . Once you turn the key to on , the fuel pressure should build to at least 30 to 40 Psi & stay there for several mins . I think a 2 to 3 lbs / min leakdown is acceptable . Once you start the engine the fuel pressure should reduce somewhat but still be in the 30 to 40 Lbs Psi range . After its running , removing the vacuum line from the pressure regulator should max out the pressure to 40 Psi . Changing the fuel filter shouldnt have any adverse affects ...Any air that entered the line will quickly be expelled as you crank the engine to start it . The pressure should vary with engine rpms as well .

Ok, if I check the pressure its low, it would be the fuel pump malfunctioning right? If I disconnect the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator & it maxes out to 40 psi, that means it's working properly, right? After it starts, it will restart as it always did right away, but after sitting 15-20 minutes it will need for you to turn the key 2-3 times, but not start just enough for the fuel pump to cycle & build pressure then complete the start on the third try. It then starts right up. Any thing else??
