coolant overflow valve?
I have a 96 EB Explorer (4WD) w/ 4.0L V6. It has 75K on it now. Anyway, There is a some type of valve on the right side of the engine, and it seems to actuate when the truck warms up. Whenever this happens, coolant leaks around the metal rod and down onto the exhaust manifold. Obvioulsy, it then smokes like there is a coolant hose busted. I unhooked (what seems to be) a vacuum line that goes into the top of it, and then the valve doesn't operate. It doesn't seem to hurt the truck's performance. What is this valve called and is this a common problem? I have tried the search, but had no luck.
Also, I have the 'check engine' problem that some of you are having.

Yes, the leak is from the valve itself. There is a metal rod that turns whenever the car warms up. It leaks around the rod. I have had no leaks inside at all. The temperature gauge isn't working, and it doesn't seem to warm up nearly as fast as it used to. BTW, my wife drives it daily, so I don't ride in it or drive it until weekends. Should this valve be pretty easy to replace, and does anyone know how much this valve would cost?
