Transmission selector mis-aligned
99 Ranger - The selector in my dash for transmission is not lining up anymore. Just started. It is off abou 1/2 inch. I can still shift because I can feel the clicks in where it is suppose to be but the P N D 1 2 don't line up properly. Can anyone tell me how to get in and fix this?

I'm pretty sure there is a small cable that possitions the indicator and you have to remove the shroud from around the collum and the plastic and metal cover under the dash to get to it. thats about all that I know, my book does'nt show it.You may be able to adjust it with just the collum cover off at the shift lever,depending on how its made.

It's a small tiny wire that connects to the colum under the dash pannel. the wire goes thru an adjustable sleeve that you can turn by hand. If when putting it in gear does it move at all? If so you might be able to adjust it by the adjustor..if it dont move then it sounds like it broke where it connects to the column. The thin wire is just looped around and crimped together. If it's broke there you can take a wire connector and re-loop the wire and crimp it back together. I know this for a fact..i just spent 3hrs twisted up under my dash this morning cuz i broke it off accidently while i was replacing the bulbs on the back side of the instrument cluster. You can always pick up a new cable at your ford dealer.
