Could a couple of you guys look at the steps that came off my truck and give me your opinions as to whether they can be fixed...welding....fiberglased...whatever??
(I found a pair ....BUT, they want $225 EACH and they need repair.).....
Are the same steps used on other Ford stepsides up to '72 or so? If so, it shouldn't be that hard to find some in better shape.
How stock does it have to be? Could you live with steps made from diamond-plate steel?
If only the edges are bad, it's not too hard to weld, braze or even solder in patches. Good practice for a novice sheet metal worker, since its basically right angles. If there's occasional rust perforation through middle area of the steps, sandblast or chemically remove the rust, then fill the holes with waterproof body filler or epoxy.
Boy, those steps are in pretty tough shape. But, even though they were used from '57 to '72, it was not easy for me to find good ones. It did finally get a decent pair for $75, but it took almost two years to find them.
I'm pretty sure you can buy repo ones for 30 dollars a piece Check out www.Dennis-Carpenter.com and search for " step Plate" Check out Kooper909 gallery as he replaced them and his weren't even existant due to rust.
