Bearing Grease

I'm gonna pack the bearings on my pop up trailer this weekend, and I'm looking for some advice. What kind of bearing grease should I use. The trailer is a single axle Rockwood trailer. Do you guys recommend any specific brands over another? Why? Thanks in advance for any help.

High temp disc brake wheel bearing grease should do the job just fine , any brand you like.

I agree, just do not get the pink kind with moly something in it. I made the mistake of using that once when I found out it turned waxy after a while and gummed up my tierods, balljoints, and grease fittings. I use the same grease for everything.

Check Dexter Axle's website for their bearing grease recommendation.

This is an excellent website with lots of information.

The highest-temperature, heaviest load-bearing, best sealing grease I have ever seen is Lucas X-tra Duty grease. It is expensive, though. If I recall correctly, it is over $4.80 per tube. But it surely works!! We had a Vermeer 605E round bailer we bought new in February of 1977. We used the Lucas grease at every Zerk on it. We sold it last Fall. In that time, of course, the bailer belts were replaced; however, that was it. NOT A SINGLE GREASEABLE COMPONENT ever failed!

However, if you feel that is too expensive, Ford's molybednum disulfide grease for disc brake applications is really great. I have used it extensively on everything I lube-except for that hay bailer--and I have never had a bearing failure on anything upon which I have applied it. That includes, of course, wheel bearings, hinges, latches, hitches, and the like on light and medium trucks, tractors, farm equipment, travel trailers, utility trailers, and fifth wheel trailers.

I am sorry, I can't recall Ford's part number for it. It is also available from Valvoline in both grease gun tube and tub. TSC also carries it.

I switched over to Mobile 1 synthetic bearing grease on our fiver,,

there is no oil seperation and if you ever have a seal go you have no oil to contanimate your brake linnings,,

a tube at most of the auto suppliers runs around $5.00,,

certainly is sticky stuff compared to the normal dino grease,,

enjoy,,

I'm with loan ranger use a molybdenum disulfide grease, it is a great high temp disc break bearing grease, Sta-Lube makes a good product and that's what I have been using for years. Rich
