Testbed vehicle?

Alright, I've got my pickup, and it gets lots of miles. 1989 F150 Lariat SC LB 300 M5OD. I do alot of highway miles, and my miles are racking up fast. I'm already over 1000 miles in just over 3 weeks. Now..I just got hte oil changed 3 weeks ago or so with Valvoline 10W30 dino. I figured since I get my oil changed so often, I might as well "lend" my vehicle to FTE and its members, and let it be a testbed of sorts for different oil's to get their UOA's. I'll be getting a UOA on Pennzoil 10W30 dino here soon as soon as I send it in, and in a month or two I'll be gettin the Valvoline UOA on the oil that is in it now.

The point of this is what YOU guys want to see run in it. Just throw up some ideas. Tallpaul, Rusty, DOHC, and the others, I trust you guys not to send me up a creek (like an oil made by a certain MLM company we all LOVE). What would you all like to see a UOA on? My truck gets run up to 3500-4000rpm's once or twice daily (love that sound) otherwise it spends its time generally chugging away at 1600 rpms (55) and 1950 (65) depending. So lemme hear it. Mobil Drive Clean, Castrol Syntec, Valvoline Durablend, Mystic JT-8 (Lets hear it Rusty *grin*). Holler back.

Mystik! You just have to find it.

Should be interesting. I'd try M1 once too, just to see how it compares and to reinforce the fact about nothing special about synthetic.

Glad we can spend your money!

Very interested in the Mobil Drive Clean and for sure the Chevron Supreme.
Sweet.

It would be interesting to see if there is a significant effect on the UOA by running a half quart of Redline oil sort of as an additive to a basic motor oil.

But for straight oils, I am a Valvoline nut, so I am always interested in Maxlife and Durablend UOAs.

Another that might be interesting is the Citgo Ultralife high mileage oil (I bet DOHC'd like that one too).

Rusty - How often are you down to see your brother (?) that lives in Oskaloosa? If its not too uncommon, maybe I could cut you a check (when I get them ordered ) or Paypal you or something, for you to pick it up for me. ^_^

As far as spending my money, it's gonna get changed anyways! Might as well try to do some good, right? That thought just kinda came to me the other day, and I figured it couldn't really hurt much.

Right now I'm most curious about the Mobil Drive Clean stuff. On an Amsoil comparison (I know I know!) the oil finished "last" out of all the dino/syn oils compared. It was a pretty stacked set of oils too. It and the Valvoline dino I'm running right now were usually bottom of the pack in the tests. Course..it was Amsoil's quotes, so I don't know how much I could take for fact. PENNZOIL was the only oil that beat it in any test..if that tells you anything.

Last night at Walmart (bored) I came across an oil from Mobil called "Mobil 1 Truck and SUV." It was supposedly dual rated for diesel AND gas, at a 5W40 weight. Full synthetic..but here's the kicker. Diesel API cert: CI-4/CH-4/CG-4/CF-4/CF. Gas API Cert: SL/SJ. Now...as a diesel oil it shouldn't be able to meet the SL/SJ standards of gas oil, should it? Not without losing its "benefits" of the higher ZDDP content and all that, the good stuff that's restricted in the gas certifications. Was fully compliant with Navistar, Powerstroke, Cummins, and GM. Blew me away. Still..5W40 oil...made me wonder. Didn't write down the cost per quart though..stupid me. The Mobil Drive Clean (High Mileage formulation, btw) was also a dual-rated carrying for both Diesel and Gas engines. it was a 10W30 and had just an API cert of SL, I didn't write down its diesel certifications though. It was designed for just cars and light trucks. Don't know if my 3 ton truck counts .

I think I'm either going to go with the Syn blend Mobil Drive Clean, or Valvoline Durablend...not sure yet. Well..that is if I can't come across any Mystik running around. ^_^ Any particular reason for any other oils? I'm pretty open to suggestion Here. Maybe I should make a poll lolol. Somebody make a new thread saying "What should Saurian do!" ^_^. I'll be passing 1400 miles tomorrow in a day under 4 weeks, so..there's still time naturally.

I get down that way often enough. Email me, maybe we can set something up. I'll sell it to you for what I got it for. (man I sound like a f****ng Amzoil salesman... ) I'd take cash...

I really have no idea though. Could be this weekend, could be in a month.

I'm thinking either Mystik or the Mobil 1 Truck & SUV I saw the other day. I wouldn't mind trying the 5W of the Mobil 1 for the time it'll be running around in there over the winter though..see if that lets her crank easier. I'm sure I'll need a new battery this winter though, regardless. Still...Rusty - you have me stuck on trying that Mystik stuff.

The Mobil 1 "gas and diesel" rated oil CAN'T be as effective as the Mystik, can it? I mean..if the oil is able to meet API ratings for gas, that means its not packing as heavy an additive punch in the Phosphorous and Zinc arena, right?

The Mobil Drive Clean is also lingering in my head too. It's a nagging feeling that I should give it a try. I don't know why, and I wouldn't use the "gas and diesel" type, as its specification is for little vehicles. I'd probably try the Mobil Drive Clean Plus version, if I did that. I'll end up changing my oil AT LEAST twice while its cold (End of September change, end of November change, end of february change for the next three changes..give or take 2 weeks or so at my pace) so it'll be a while before I give the Rotella T 15W40 a try (at least 4 oil changes till then, probably).

Mobil Drive Clean (Multiple Viscosity Ranges, Formulations)
Mystik JT-8 10W30 (Diesel)
Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5W40 (Gas & Diesel Rated)

What do you all have to say on those three choices? I don't think any of those are more then 2.50 or 3.00 a quart, so cost isn't a factor. Even if they are - it's not like it'll be that big of a deal. Maybe with one of these I should concider running up to 5000 miles on the oil change? Rusty, I know you've done the 5k with Mystik and it did just great, and I can't really see Mobil 1 not lasting 5k miles. Drive Clean...I'd have to do it at 3k just because I'd worry after that. Anyways...lets hear it. I'm concidering a new thread with a Poll...that might make it easier.

The Drive Clean here is $1.17 ran it for a long time in my wifes Saturn. Have no complaints.
Although the more I read.....the Chevron Group II would be more attractive if I hadnt switched to M-1 for her new DOHC KIA.
I run 15w40 in my 91 F-150 120k miles.

Come to think of it, the Citgo is the newest oil in question, right? Maybe I should go ahead and try that one out, get a UOA for people to go by on it.

On a side note..my girlfriend is whining about the sound of the keyboard tapping. ^_^

From what I understand, the Mobil 1 Truck and SUV is re-packaged Delvac 1, which is very good stuff. Supposedly flows at 65 degrees below zero...

You just start a new thread, and select the check box to start a poll. Try it in the testing forum.
