just like a LOT of words in this pc climate...
ignorance was not always a bad word...

Fundamentally speaking and with regard to a given object,
ignorance is the outcome of the limitations of our intellect or
of the obscurity of the matter itself.
To me it is basically a lack of exposure - I am ignorant of nuclear fision...
meaning "I've never studied it, but bet I could get a fair grasp of it"
To be ignorant of a fact means you haven't been exposed to the facts....
Now, once exposed, and still ignorant ----- well....
then, boy howdy, it ain't the facts fault cowpoke

Sb - I never push for docs from my people because we are ISO certified and we have ENOUGH documentation to choke a elephant !
Besides if they are documented - 90% of the time it is wrong
and leads you astray....I chose to have sharp people in my group and have them write self documenting code
ANd mister auditor I have some land in south swampy....
