i read recently that there was a voltage regulator to the dash instruments that could cause your temp gauge to show overheating...
My temp gauge shows that my temp is normal at first start in the morning and rises to above H and the engine light comes on... when i place my hand on the radiator it is warm but not hot... could this be a bad sensor and if so where is it located i see 3 which is the correct one...??
thanks in advance for the replies...
and i promise to read them more carefully
Keith, there is an instrument voltage regulator. About $65.00 at Ford if yours is bad. The one in my van is going bad. My gauges read high sometimes, but they all move at the same time, not just one. And then they go back down within minutes. My guess would be a sensor. I am changing my stock gauges to aftermarket, probably autometer. Gauges can go bad and give wrong readings. I don't know what engine you have or what sensors you are looking at to tell which is which. Get a good manual and check the diagrams for the wiring color. Good luck
The one down below the temp guage sending unit is the dash light sending unit.
The one under the alternator is for the cold start fast idle and timing advance.
Problem solved, it was the temp sending unit... had one from my parts engine to use... thanks again all for the great advice... and what a great photo! thanks Dave!
