I know this is the FE board not the carb/fuel delivery board but I figured I would get a better response here.
I would like to know what would be a good jetting for a Holley 600 Vacuum secondary carb on a semi stock 390/Crane 901 cam/ dual plane aluminum intake/ headers with 2 1/2 inch dual flows.
The motor will see most of it's life between sea level and 3500 feet.
The carb is jetted 066 primary and 070 secondary.
I had it setup like this on my old Power Wagon with a 360 to help with fuel economy.
Just wondering what would be a good starting point with the jetting.
Any help would be great.
Thanks, Ken
A good starting point is whatever is in it. Take it for a drive, read the plugs and make changes. If the carb was jetted well for the dodge, then it won't be terribly far off on the Ford. It will be close enough for a test ride.
Scouder,
Thanks for the response,
When I built this carb originally, I had parts from 3 different carbs. front metering block from the 600, rear metering block from a 750, and center hung floats from a donor carb. Built the carb for offroad use originally so all the jetting was removed and I started fresh.
I was just wondering what everyone was using to give me an idea of a good starting point.
The truck is too loud to be hitting the secondaries around the house so it would be hard to get the secondary jetting set up without ****ing off my neighbors and maybe getting a ticket.
Thanks, Ken
You really need to make some WOT runs to get the secondary jetting right. Right now I think it's too lean and you probably can't hear it detonate over the noise. To read the plugs it's best to install a couple new ones just for the color test. If it were me I'd go ahead and install either 76 or 78 secondary jets, the primarys are probably ok, wouldn't go above 68.
