1997 V-8 cold engine ping
Lately I have noticed a cold engine ping in my V-8. It occurs when the engine is cold and it is cold out. Sometimes it goes away after the engine warms up, after a couple of minutes, other times it continues for 15 minutes of driving (short distances). I usually drive a combination of local and highway. I recently had it at the dealer for a PCM (?) recall and asked that they check it out. The mechanic said they could not detect any unusual engine noise. Short of taking him out on a test run with me, I just took the car back. Any idea why this is happening? I used to use regular gas, but once this started (in September when the weather changed here in NY) I changed to 93 octane and have been buying it since. I notice that the gas here no longer states it is oxygenated during the winter like it used to be. Any connection? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
