Rear end identification

I have looked aroudn and I can't seem to find the codes for for my 8.8. the number on the tag is 55888L01 what does that mean i have?

It seems that you're missing a number. It should start with 3._________, you probably have the 3.55 gearing on the 8.8. You can also use the axle code on the driver's side door jamb and call up Ford's service dept. to find out what rear you have.

theres no 3 in front of it but this was above it, i cleaned off a lil more and saw it. S814P

you can use the code identifiers on this website to tell what rear you have. I used it on mine.

Drew, the axle code would be different if it was limited slip. I have code H9 which is limited slip. If the rear end was replaced and to find out if it's limited slip jack up the rear and put in neutral, spin the tire and if the other wheel is spinning in the same direction then you have limited slip.
