Breakin question

If I buy a new truck 1700 miles from home should I stop at 1000 for an oil change?

Welcome to FTE. You will get a lot of answers here. I changed my oil at 5,000 miles and it looked fine. Mixed highway and city.

The main thing is to vary your driving conditions in the first 1,000 miles per your Ford manual / diesel supplement.

FYI: I drove mine 500 miles the first three days I owned it.

Good luck on your future purchase.

Personaly, I did my first oil change at 3,000 miles and my next at 6,000 miles... after that, every 5,000 miles.

WHY???

1) Ford fills your motor with 10W-30 motor oil, which for me is too light.

2) You want to change out any "new engine" contaminants from when the motor was casted, assembled and first broken in (hence the 3,000 and 6,000 mile changes).

3) After the first two, then regular oil & filter changes every 5,000 is very beneficial to your motor.

4) If you want to do it sooner, that's OK and totally up to you - sooner is always better than later.

5) Just don't ask about what brand of oil and reg vs synth!!!!! - You'll get 1,000 responses and more reasons to switch or not than you are prepared for.

Good luck, but flushing out the "factory fill" is the "key thing" here!!!
