04 (feb 04 engine date) 10k miles. Sitting at a traffic light and blue smoke is rolling everywhere from my exhast, hit the highway and it cleared right up. Any ideas?
Well, since noone has anything to offer, this is taken from a website that pertains to the 7.3 PSD. Most of the info should also pertain to the 6.0 PSD.
Blue or blue/white smoke:
Caused by insufficient fuel or oil consumption. Normal when engine is cold or idling for extended periods. Excessive smoke could be caused by air in the fuel, contaminated fuel, loose or plugged injectors, worn or leaking injector o-rings, thermostat stuck open, oil consumption, or plugged crankcase depression regulator valve. Also PCM inputs such as MAP or ICP sensors.
I'm probably not much help, but I've been driving diesels for 14 years. I only get blue smoke when I haven't warmed up the engine before taking off I'm sure that's not your problem though, probably something way more complicates

OUCH
Can somebody help repair the blow from the velvet hammer
Sorry I didn't mean to come across as being mean. Just that that is the only time I've ever had blue smoke with any of my diesels. I was just trying to put across in writing (which isn't always easy) that I didn't want to be saying the person asking the question....awww, I can't get my point across......I give up
Monica,
I took your response as very straight forward, and coming from someone with 13 more years experience with Diesels than I have. I think this just gives us one example of creating the problem, and if the engine is fully warm before driving and still emits blue smoke, it should eliminate this option from the equation.
No harm, no foul, just my .02 on the matter.

It comes from being a woman with 3 kids driving big mean diesel trucks. You should see how stupid people think I am when I come in with a problem. It's always "have you ever driven a truck before" Well, excuse me not only do I drive em, I can service em too, change my own oil and pretty much everything else I can do by myself
And you must intimidate the HECK out of them then....
I can't imagine how frustrating it must be ---
I get the run around too until they realize that I know of what I speak...
but my svc writer got smart pretty quick after I proved I knew more about it than he did !
I've been trying to convince my dealership to hire me in their service department. They outright turned me down once, but now that they don't have anyone anymore, I may have to apply again!
