ok i need to do something about my exhaust where the egr was (it disintegrated into rust powder) there is a large hole and pretty much all of the pipe around it is rusted BADLY also the cat seems to have a cover on it that is coming off and they are 16 yrs old as it is
what i dont want to do is hafta lift the engine or anything to change headers so i will leave the factory ones but from there im considering removing the cats and replacing them with two pieces of striaght pipe going back all the way to where the y pipe is for dual exhaust or replacing with a muffler where the cats are and leaving almost everything else
also i havent decided whether im going to replace egr or not it seems to be doing fine without it
the question is which would be easier? i really dont have access to a weilding machine so if at all possible i would like to find some way to use claps or something?
but if that is not good enough i will take it to a shop
I have the 5.8L in my '96 Bronco and put in BBK headers. I didn't have to lift the engine to get those headers in but if you decide to put in headers pick up a set of Stage 8 header lock bolts. This will save you on blown header gaskets and believe me I know. You're better off renting a welder to set up the dual exhaust you want. You'll end up using too many clamps to put together this set up.
If your truck gets the state safety/emissions test, put in a good set of high flow cats and replace the egr tube. I just recently replaced my two cats with high flow and put in a flowmaster 40 with dual outlets. Good luck.
yeah replacing every fuse and fusable link on it would be a learning experience
well i figure i might as well get a muffler shop to do this i have no emissions testing so i think if i can get away from my idle issues the egr will not be replaced now i just hafta find one that will take cash and not worry about the cats
if i cut it out myself then took them exactly what i wanted welded in would a muffler shop still be held liable even if it didnt have cats when they got it? i dont want them to get in any trouble
You should still have a convertor put in if your vehicle is registered because EPA fines are hefty. Unless your vehicle stays on private property then you can do whatever you want.
