I'm looking for some ideas from anyone who has installed an overhead console in an X that didn't come with one.
I installed my console this weekend and everything is working great, with one exception. I hooked up the grey/black wire that connects to the speed sensor. I used a self tapping connector and attached the console wire to the grey/black wire coming out of the GEM, right behind the radio. The temperature reading is accurate, as long as I'm on the highway & moving at highway speed. If I'm driving in the city or get stuck in a slow down on the highway, the temperature goes up. The other day I passed a sign showing the temperature and the reading on my console was 8 degrees higher. By the time I got home, it showed 92 when it was only 78 outside.
Anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?
If they came from the same year/model then you're probably OK. If not - how chummy are you with your local Ford parts department? Give them the year/model the probe came from and see if the probe part # is the same as the year/model you pulled the console from.
Ok, thanks. I'll have to figure something out. I bought the console on Ebay but pulled the probe myself, and I don't know what year either truck was. I didn't realize there were different ones for different years.
Those are the instructions I followed as well. I'll try putting it somewhere else first....right now it's on the headlight side of the post next to the radiator. The one I pulled wasn't mounted, it was hanging loose, so I wasn't sure exactly where it was supposed to go....I just mounted it using a hole I found behind the grill, between the radiator & headlight.
