Question Confused!!

Of all the Ford I6 fans who frequents this forum, I can't believe no one can answer my inquiry about valve cover orientation. I saw a detailed Ford I6 that the indentations in the valve cover were facing the plug side of the engine. On my 1981 F100 the indentations are facing the intake side. Were earlier six cyl engines different? If so when?
What are the purpose of the indentations when facing the intake side? I can see where they would compliment the plugs on the other side! I only glanced at the mounting screws, but are they complimentary to mounting either way? Someone other than myself must be curious about this!

I have never seen a 240-300 mI6 with the indents to the plug side. All of the trucks, vans and Broncos have them to the intake side.

Some of the smaller I6 (200) may be the otherway.

The valve cover only fits one way - why would we be curious about that? Maybe your head is on backwards.

You were looking at a "SMALL BLOCK" 144-170-200-250 I-6's. The "Ruffles" were on the plug side on those engines.

Thumbs up Valve Cover

Thanks Larry, I knew someone would be able to answer the question! The photo did not have a caption so I couldn't tell anything about it rather than it was a Ford six.
Nice to hear from someone from Glen Burnie, I just moved here to North Carolina from the Arbutus area over near Catonsville. You would sure like the inspection process here.
