Ken, I think I saw this "Sport Trac" you have started a disscusion group on today, if its what I think its an Explorer 4dr with a pickup bed, do you have more info on it???
Thanks, -Supercab
I got to see the new Sport Trac in person at the Houston Rodeo. Is is very nice. It is based on the Explorer, but looks to be about the same length as a Ranger supercab. The bed was very deep (the tailgate looked like it came off the F-150 Flareside). It had lots of options, big wheels and tires, lots of other little goodies, a 4.0 SOHC V6, and it stickered at $25,450. You can get the Nissan and Dakota crewcabs cheaper, but you can't get them as nice as this truck. I was impressed. Ford has a link to at http://www.fordvehicles.com/sporttrac/st_plugin.asp
I sat in one the other day ..2wd . I was a little surprised it didnt have 4 wheel disc brakes . The salesman had virtually no info on it so he couldnt give me a lot of details . The rear window rolls goes down electrically and it had a 12v power supply in the bed . It had pretty good ground clearance too . I liked the bed liner thing ...its sort of a cross between a bed liner and a sprayed on bed liner , plus it had tie down hooks .

I bought one of these beauties last week and I absolutely love it. The engine is very peppy, it has 4 inches more space in the back than the Explorer Sport, and it rides like a dream. I also accidentally tested the suspension and hit an incline which took all 4 wheels off the road. It landed just fine with no scraping at all. Very tight!!! Excellent automobile
The Sport Trac is very nice, indeed, however, I would question having leather seats in a truck with a rubber floor mat. I'm interested in knowing how well they are selling (they are my bread & butter)....can't seem to get any data. For the record, a manual transmission is planned as well as 4 wheel disc brakes.
Hi,
I saw one of these sport tracs in a parking lot yesterday and all I can say is WOW! I thought it was some kind of concept vehicle or something! I actually stopped in the road to get a better look. I think Ford will sell a lot of these. Some good competition for the Nissan Frontier. Can you get a V-8 in the SportTrac? I did't especially like the Ford Focus style fenders or the copper color paint, but still it's a great looking truck.
I have been trying to order Sport Trac and was told that Estate Green was not yet available. I sent e-mail to Ford asking when it would be available and they replied that it is not a planned color option at present time. This is interesting since it is listed on their web site as color option and also appears in brochure that Ford dealers give out.Has anybody seen an Estate Green ST and if not, does anybody have additional info on when (if ever) Estate Green will be available?
I work at the Louisville Assembly Plant where the Sport Trac is built, and I have never seen Estate Green on one. I have seen an olive-green metallic type color that was not real pretty, but there were only 4 of them, and I've not seen any since. I joked that with a white star on the side, it would be military-chic!
I was wondering about that color myself, as I saw the color listed on the website, but had never seen it on any units.

I just purchased a Sport Trac, loaded with leather seats and all of the options, including 4x4 drive. It is luxurious enough for my clients to ride with me in each day, and yet practical for me to be able to use it as a true work truck when I need it. Ford will sell a LOT of these!
Do you have any idea when the hard, folding tonneau cover will be available for the Sport Trac? I was told that the manufacturer for the tonneau cover is having problems with the design and it may be a LONG TIME before it is available.

I just saw a letter from Ford to their dealers stating that they will be mailing an offer to all Sport Trac owners soon offering them the option to buy the cover at factory prices ($590).
