passenger side mirror
recently I cracked and shattered the passenger side mirror (not the base of the mirror) of my explorer.
It happened when I pulled the mirror in and the mirror cracked when I unnoticablely put up the power window and it shattered the mirror.
my first question is what is the price to replace this mirror? the mirror just slid out and i would like to replace it.. i was told it would be 150 dollars from ford.. is this correct?
my second question is if i should mail a comlaint to ford about the design of the mirror and why it could possibly turn inside the window. (although maybe negligent in my part)

I bought one previously off the internet, from a salvage in New York, for $89.95 plus $10 shipping.
Yeah, someone at Ford got smart and decided to not sell the mirror without the whole works, for $160 plus tax, versus $30 plus tax for just the mirror.
I also believe they have one going on ebay for the passenger side right now.
Oh, the one from the salvage, is brand new, but it's an after market, and the inside mounts up a little differently, as long as you never remove it, like i have to do in Mexico every night to keep em from stealing them, they sit just fine. But if you remove them a few times, there's a little extra play in the plastic holders and I always worried about it falling off!?!
So, it's best to get a whole mirror from a salvage or Ford or ebay.

passenger side mirror
You can get a left or right Explorer mirror from the bone yard and use on either side because the mirror is reversible. One side is normal and the other, if you flip it around, is convex for the passenger side. All you need to do is rub off the silicone adhesive and reapply to the correct side for mounting.
