Rainy days: E150 does not start.
This is obviously an electric problem, and it happens with perfect correlation: RAIN=NO_START
I suspect the ignition coil, maybe wet or maybe the coating protection is corroded. I have looked everywhere but I cannot find the place where it is located. Is somebody here expert of the 5L-8V engine and willing to help me located the coil ?
thanks
Years ago I had the same thing on a 77 F150. One early morining when it was real damp outside it wouldn't start. I popped the hood and tried to start the truck. I could see sparks jumping from the plug wires. Wiped them off with a paper towel and it started right up. Replaced them after work and never had the trouble again.
I also had this problem before. It turned out to be the wire coming out of the coil was green with corrosion. You are definitely on the right track, looking at your high voltage wiring and coil. Find the distributor. Find the wire that is right in the center of the dist cap. Follow this wire, and it should lead you to the coil, wherever it is.
I mean they were wet and probably had broken down insulation. By wiping the water off I was able to get to work that morning. I replaced them later the same day. Undoubtedly if I hadn't replaced them the next time it was damp outside it probably wouldn't have started again.
