Starting problem believed to be electrical issue.? Need help.
Yesterday I was using 4 low in my 97 f150 4.6l and it would not immediately disengage. Now today, (August 15), I can not start the truck and the ABS and 4 wheel low indicator lights come on briefly then go out. I believe the problem is electrical but not totally sure. Would sure like to fix this on my own or at least know what the problem may be before getting soaked by ford dealership.
Heddon for fish here. Buddy stopped by today with his f150 and told me that his truck did the same thing. It turns out that the positive battery cable has corroded and broken away from the starter. Ford charged him $200.00 to fix it and it seems to be a common problem due to the location of the starter underneath the truck.
I crawled underneath and sure enough the cable has broken away from the starter. I will be calling Ford tomorrow to order new cable or see about putting new end connector on and reinstalling it. Glad this fix turned out to be a cheap one........knock on wood!
