I agree with Oquadzilla, you should expect the average to be around 50,000 miles. However I have heard of them going out in much less. My first one went out in less than 5,000 miles. The next one at 75,000. I always carry a spare, just in case.

I think I'm gonna go to Orlando to the I H dealer and pick up a spare to carry with me . The one I just bought cost me $182. ( Ford dealer wanted $211.53 ) . Someone on this site said you could get one at an I H dealer for $95.

I found the links and noted that there is a reference to before and after a specific serial number. What serial number are they talking about? I assume it is the engine block but want to be sure

I believe it's stamped somewhere around the oil filter, but the easiest location to find it is on the sticker below the front of the plastic cover for the fuel bowl.
