Spud,
Realistically that's like asking "when will my waterpump go out?" Some go at 30K, some go at 200K of what I've seen in this forum.

I just recently replaced mine again. I'm getting about 50000 miles out of them before they need replacement.

I agree with Oquadzilla, you should expect the average to be around 50,000 miles. However I have heard of them going out in much less. My first one went out in less than 5,000 miles. The next one at 75,000. I always carry a spare, just in case.

I replaced mine today . I've had the truck about a month , 176000 mi. '96 F350 5 speed 4 dr. Don't know if has been replaced before ? I think I'm gonna go to Orlando to the I H dealer and pick up a spare to carry with me . The one I just bought cost me $182. ( Ford dealer wanted $211.53 ) . Someone on this site said you could get one at an I H dealer for $95.

The price I paid was between $103 and $105 including tax, I can't find the receipt in my file

Your best insurance is to carry a spare and the tools to change it out. And pray that it's not in your tuxedo!

I found the links and noted that there is a reference to before and after a specific serial number. What serial number are they talking about? I assume it is the engine block but want to be sure

I believe it's stamped somewhere around the oil filter, but the easiest location to find it is on the sticker below the front of the plastic cover for the fuel bowl.
