I am working on a 95 F150 300-6/5-Speed. It has dual tanks. My problem is that the truck runs bad on the front tank (lean) which I assume is a weak pump.
It runs great on the rear tank, but it seems to be pumping fuel from the rear tank to the front tank while running. This truck doesn't have the switching valve on the frame like the older ones did, so i know that it's not bad. It has a "T" in the supply and return lines on the frame. My question is, what is supposed to keep the fuel from entering the unused tank when running off of the other one. Is there a check valve somewhere that could be bad?
I am having the same problem on a 91 F150, 300-6. The truck has now stopped running on the front tank completely. Replaced the fuel pump, but it still won`t run on front tank. Runs fine on back tank, but pumps all the fuel into the front tank. I have to siphon the gas out of the front and put into back tank, or in will eventually run out of the cap. Any ideas?
There is a check valve in each sending unit that is supposed to prevent cross flow. I am not sure how this works, but it sounds like the one in the front tank is bad. If you already suspect the fuel pump to be bad, may as well replace the sending unit and kill two birds with one stone.
