I have come to the Wizards of all the Exped owners in hope I can find some help.
I have a 2K XLT 5.4L and after I had it tuned up it just does not want to idle.
the best idle I can get out of it is about 400 rpm. I have rigged it to Idle higher(don't ask the laughter does not help) but it is working. Without the "Rigging" is Idles 400-800 in a herkey jerkey....up-down-up-down....you get the picture. I have been looking through the FAQ's in hopes to find something, anybody with this problem? Other then this stupid problem....it runs great. A little slow coming out of the whole. I would love to get the snap back it used to have.
Who tuned it you or other was everything plugged back in? I had a mass air flow sensor do this when it was knocked loose after cleaning the air filter. Maybe idle air sensor Just a few ideas.
I had it tuned by Ford the first time then a guy who said he knew what it was the second time(he owns the same model). If you tell me where to check I will do so and let you know....
Just read your first post again if it seems like it is surging idle up and down no skip I would start with the flow sensor if you changed the air filter or reoiled one like a k&N and did not let dry before reinstalling during the tune up it might have come un plugged or clogged from the oil. The sensor is inline coming from the air intake. Some people clean them check in here for post I do not recall what they have used that will not damage the sensor. The iac Idle air control is on the back of the throtle body I believe. Try autozone web site to see if they have a manual online they also post locations for certain parts for a lot of vehicles. Does the idle change if you crank the a/c? Just my ideas.
Thanks for all your help. I will tell you that since I got the Idle up, it does run smoother and without any blips. What I did up at the throttle, there is a threaded Bolt/Screw that the hammer of the cable yoke lays on....I just extended it. It has been working fine. I will look for these sensors and clean them. I have noticed that with an engine as big as this one is it seems to be a lt less snappy then I would think. I have asked around and I have been told the throttle is dirty...?
