Hey guys, I am looking to install 1x 10" Alpine Type S subwoofer in the rear of my 2004 Ford Ranger, 4 door extended cab.
Ideally I would like to remove the jack assembly from between the two jumper seats and have the sub-enclosure custom made to fit in the same place. I realize it will take up a bit more space, however I would like to keep it as close to the same size and shape of the jack cover as possible. The sub-enclosure I am looking to have will be sealed.
Has anyone seen this done before? Any advice/pictures, etc would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know how much space (how large) my sub-enclosure will have to be for this sub? ie: 1.3 cu ft?
Well,
The sub enclosure will be based on the recommendations from Alpine for your particular sub. Since you didn't state the specific S Type in use, I can only guess. According to the Alpine website, it may range anywhere from .6 to 1.25 cubic ft for the enclosure. You'll need to check the manual for that info. Don't want to make a box that doesn't fall under their own specs, may sound like crappolla.
I haven't done what you're looking to do, since I ripped my jump seats and jack out of the back of my Ranger and put in a custom built box with 2 10 inchers, 2 amps, cd changer and a deck on top of it for my dog to lay on.
You may be able to get away with a box that would fit between the jump seats. Don't even remember how much space there was in mine.
If you got any other questions on building a sub box, let me know.
Is this on the back wall? If so, a long skinny box won't work because alpine's are kinda deep. You'll need at least 1/2" of clearance behind the sub or it will overheat. Your airspace will work, you'll have to tweek the box design.
