97 Explorer replacement stereo
I'm looking at aftermarket options for replacing the factory stereo. I have the 6-CD changer and it works fine, but I'd really like a CD/cassette unit with a dash-loading CD. If it can control the existing changer, so much the better. I looked at the Visteon products, and they look pretty good, but the dealers are not very close. Any suggestions?

My 98 has a "double size" unit which has both cd and cassette. It works fine except the display fades in and out often.

You could probably find a good used one at car-part.com which would fit into your existing mount.

Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunately, the JBL system I have is not compatible with the rest of the world. Everyone I talked to says that there is no aftermarket head-unit that will interface with the existing changer and sub-woofer. So I would be essentially installing a new system. If I had a 98, it might be a different story, but so far, it looks like I'll live with what I got.

one cool accessory they have for the explorer is sub boxes that fit in the little cargo areas behind the rear wheels.
