i am looking for a repair manual for my 79 f 150. i know there are chiltons, haynes, and also the cd-rom on motorhaven. i was wondering what one is the best. the cd rom is a little expensive but if it is a lot better i will buy it. i have used a haynes manual for my friends 89 chevy when i helped him put a new motor in and such and it seemed like a good book. i need to put new seals in my dana 44 and i am looking for the best manual to help me out with that and other things i may need to do down the road to keep the truck running without spending its time in the shop. any opinions would be appreciated. i may even end up with both a chiltons and haynes depending on what your opinions are. thanks for any help guys.
I have 2 chilton books for my '73. The first one I found was for '65-'86 ! No wiring diagrams(wiring diags are a big help) but I was desparate and needed it right then.
I found a much better Chilton for half the price at my local book reseller (Half Price Books). It was for '73 -'79 exclusive and has more specific info and wiring diagrams for
each year.
I'd recomend a Chilton book, if it has wiring diags.(if ya haven't guessed I beleve in wiring diags )
chiltons and haynes manuals are written for home mechanics and both have some good tips for doing things, both also miss things that the other company covers.
the shop manuals go much more in depth, but are written from the point of view that the reader has a fully stocked dealership garage full of special tools.
i have to aggree. getting all 3 is the way to go. I have had to use mulitple sources before. I have the chilton and the haynes at present. The cdrom will be next.
