76 f250
I have a chanceto buy a 76 f250 4x4. The owner says that the transfer case needs attention because a chain "slaps" when it goes into reverse. I thought 250's of that year came with a gear driven 205, am I correct. It is possible that it was swapped out but anyone have any ideas on what it might be using? Is the 203 a plssibility and is it a chain driven. He says that it is a divorced transfer case also.

yep te 203 was an optional choice. it is chain driven. it is usually a very reliable case. but i guess not this time. try and get a 205 to replace it. there should be some in the classifieds. i'm not 100% on this, but it should be a bolt in replacement. good luck!
