Troubled over ticking
i have a 96 F150 with the 5.0 V8 and its had a light tick in it since i bought it. I just recently had an EGR code come up and took the egr off and cleaned it and the port on the intake but the code is still there...anyway, after i did this the tick has become alot louder....its not to noticeable at idle unless u put ur ear almost next to the EGR valve as that is where it sounds like its coming from, but when u accelerate you really hear it. Im wondering if i might of cracked the tube coming off the EGR valve that goes into the block. When u hit the gas in nuetral u can really smell a strong odor of exhaust which kind of made me think of a cracked manifold but it seems strange the noise only got louder after i cleaned the EGR. if it is the tube, how hard are they to replace?

Most likely you cracked it or aggetated a pin hole that was already there. If your egr tube is rusty(probably) chances are that is exactly what you did. If you get a water squirt bottle and spray around it with the engine at about 1500 rpm you should find it.

yup the tube was completely cracked at the flexible part. i think i just made it worse when i did it. Anyway i got a replacement tube from ford and have my intake off sitting in my driveway....man that thing was a bitch to get off. gonna get it all back together tomorrow and see what happens, if this dont fix my check engine light im gonna try my dpfe sensor. thanks guys
