Question got a predator, now what?

just got my predator install today, this truck now flys, can smoke the tires!!!
Only running the 65hp mode.
question is should i redo the exhaust system with a different one?
If so which one?
what about gauges?
any information would be helpful

technically u dont need either, but u really outta get em both...

an EGT and a 3.5 in down pipe with the muffler hacked off is sufficient if u dont beat on ur truck.

check out the methanol/water thread. then u wont need to worry bout EGT

The 'add ons' probably depend on how you plan on driving or towing, and how the truck with the new found power will be used.. OR, if you just want even more power for your buck.. A EGT gauge is a good idea 'just' to keep an eye on the exhaust temps, and to protect the mill, as well as the warranty.. Cheap insurance.. With the truck in stock configuration (no mods) you shouldn't see any damaging temps if your not hammering the throttle for long periods of time on steep grades ect., or up in the altitudes/heat pulling a load.. Mine is in stock profile and the temps are 'well within' the safe range even on a hard carpet pressing, in the 65HP tune.. An intake and exhaust isn't a must, but would help to lower egt, and add to the fun!!!

......................HP.......................... ....

gauges should be first... but isn't there always a but...

My funds are minimal while building this house...
so I had to decide ...
if I got gauges and found that I HAD a temp problem I would have to get exhaust and/or intake anyway...
SO I chose to attack the CURE first rather than to measure it first...
put an aluminized turbo back exhaust system with 3.5" dp that opens up to 4" all the way back with a flow thru muffler... have had the predator on since 1-15-04 in DALLAS heat and with my fast driving and not had any problems...

I have been running my Predator in 65HP mode. I keep intending to get an EGT gauge and I am still undecided about the exhaust. Living here in hot Central Texas I haven't had any problems. I don't want to spend money as I will be out of a job in Oct. Company got bought out, closing plant, exporting jobs, blah, blah, blah

I didn't see any mention of your truck's year. From what I understand, the 2004 has a pretty good stock exhaust system (i.e., freeer-flowing downpipe then the 2003). There are several users here that are stock and have reported no problems with the Predator. In fact, the Predator has been mentioned specifically for how well it gets along with the stock exhaust, etc.

I am running the Predator in 100HP mode, stock exhaust, no gauges. Now, for the kind of driving I do 99% of the time, I don't feel that it is an issue. When I tow really heavy things, I put in the tow-safe program. Otherwise, it's 100HP mode and Git-Er-Done . Based on my research, I don't have any negative feelings about it.

I would put in an EGT gauge and see how your temps are. It's cheap insurance and my guess is that you will not feel the need to tinker with the exhaust, at least for the purpose of lowering EGT's.

I have been running my Predator since the first week in January. I have 20,000 miles with 97% in the 65 HP mode. I have gages and a K&N FIPK. My exhaust is still stock. You can see how the 100 HP mode works by looking at my dyno sheet on my gallery.

I plan to add exhaust and Methanol/water injection some time soon.

I haven't noticed excessive EGTs but I never tow anything.

Just installed my gauges yesterday. Haven't done much driving or any towing yet. The install is easy, (with help from FTE) and its amazing how fast those EGT's spike on the go pedal. Next week the exhaust goes on and then the predator. My feeling, insurance first.

Choctaw Bob is using the stock exhaust...
I have a aluminized turbo back - 3.5" downpipe to 4" from downpipe back...

Neither of us have had a problem since we've been running the predator (got them in Jan timeframe...)

This weekend took a 400 mile trip in my 2004 SD 6.0 Crewcab. Had in 65 hp mode, notice a little problem, when driving 65 to 70 mph, the truck with not upshift without standing on the pedal, you almost have to push it thru the floor to get it to shift.
Is this a problem?
Did notice that my Mileage did go up, but about 1.5. but this happen more as I drove faster. From 60 to 70 over head mpg showed 16.2, but when i opened her up to 75 to 85+, the mpg increased 17.2.
the shifting was hard at first, but seems to have mellowed out.
I am planning to install a EGT gauge as soon as i can find one I like, And then I need a good mounting spot, I did see a fellow member that made a nice looking cupholder style on the cluster panel, Looked good, but wonder if you can do it alittle different.
Also, I will be changing the Exhaust sytem.
Which is good, Have Looked the MBR, What do you Guys think?
Thanks for all the good imput, It been Wonderful so Far
