We are looking to buy a 7.3L PSD 2002 Excursion with 45000 miles on it. Is there anything in particular we should be paying attention to when we go test drive it?
IF you want to know if your getting a good deal or just an average deal you can go to kelley blue book.com , ( NEVER PAY BLUE BOOK PRICE ) enter the info on the truck and it will tell you the average selling price . It's fast and easy . You can also try NADA.com , but I like kelley better ( personal preference ) . I can't speak to what to look for on the Ex. except the same things you'ld look for on any vehicle you're thinking of buying , if your going to spend that kind of $$$$ on a truck take it to a mechanic you trust and have him check it out for you . Also you can do a search for recalls on a vehicle too , and if there are any you can ask the dealer if they nave been taken care of .
Thanks for your input, I guess what I really was trying to say is that this is our first time buying a diesel and was wondering if there is anything in particular to look out for.
If you can get the maintenance records that would be very helpful .It's importain to change oil and filter regularly ( don't forget the fuel filter ) , and have the cooling system checked to maintain the right chemical balance to prevent "cavitation ", which is pitting of the cylinder walls due to small bubbles that form in the coolant and settle on the cylinder walls in the water jacket then burst when the cylinder fires taking a small amount of metal with it . Hang around this site as much as you can there is a lot of knowledge and help here !My current truck is my second diesel P U and I drove big truck for 30yr. and I'm still learning !
