I love my truck don't get me wrong! It's just that the 4.2 doesn't give me the ummmpfff that I am looking for. See I am 24 and well...I love to cruise but I like to burn rubber even now and then too. THe racing culture is just taking off here where I live and I don't want my ford to be left behind if you know what I mean!!
So.... is it possible to put a let's say "lightning" engine in my truck?
Yea, its possible, anything is possible if you got enough $$ and time.
Your best bet is to find a donor (wrecked) truck with a good 5.4 engine and tranny. That way you can get all the little things that are required for the change: wiring harness, motor mounts, ECU, ect. As mentioned above, this would cost alot and require alot of work too. It would probably be better to start looking for another truck that is equiped with what you want.
As Triton mentioned, the best bet is to find a donor truck, but it would be difficult and time consuming to do. Putting an engine from a lightning would work, but it would also be more expensive!
I believe you can find a supercharger for about $4k that would probably give you 100hp and cost a lot less than another engine!
I have located a lightning engine with the wiring harness and computer for really cheap. What else is there that I would need to complete this project?
You need pretty much everything under the hood. The transmission is different, exhaust, alternator, PS pump, AC compressor, hoses, vacuum lines, mounts, throttle cable, rad etc.
Unless you have a complete donor truck it's going to be a lot of work and parts hunting.
Well thanks for your help!!! I just located an engine with everything that I would need to do this job for $2225!!! I am excited. It is an 03' with only 6000 miles!! YEEEEEAAAAAHHHHH.
