Valve Guides
My poor old truck came to me with 338,000 miles on it and it was tired. Finally dropped a valve and broke a guide in the process. Come to find out, the keepers on the valve just wore out and the valve slipped right through them. Pulled the head and tore it down, most of the guides are VERY worn. My machinist tells me this is common, at least around here (7500 ft above sea level, little air, engines have to work HARD).
Machinist I use tells me this is an easy fix, as far as the guide wear. They use "a guide in a guide". They bore the guides oversize, then insert a bronze wear sleeve, which fits the valve stem. Says it works great and wears much longer than the original guide. Just thought someone else might be able to use this idea. As far as price, he tells me he can repair/replace the broken guide, do the inserts on the others for around $100 to $125. Valve work would be extra, but I have the advantage of having a valve machine at work, so---.
