I’m buying an xm radio and am trying to decide where to mount the antenna. I was considering the possibility of a magnetic mount and bringing the wire out through the break / bed lights. The only other choice I could think of is to drill and permanently mount. In my opinion both options have issues. With the magnetic mount I’m afraid of a possible water leak where the wire comes out of the light and also that the cable would have to ride a couple of inches against the paint possibly rubbing the paint off causing other problems. With drilling, well never liked drilling….
I have a small magnetic antenna for my XM that I just ran out the drivers side and then along the windshield weatherstrip. You can see the wire which is really no big deal. My truck is dark green so it doesn't stand out. I thought about drilling too, but decided against it.
I did the magnetic mount and it sits on my roof at the top corner of the drivers side post by the windshield rubber. It is almost invisible. People don't see it there unless I point it out.
Great, just ordered a roady 2 and should have it this weekend. Bought it mostly to connect to home stereo but will also use it in the truck. It comes with both a cassette hook up and FM modulator. I'm hoping the modulator will work well in the truck. At home it will be hard wired into the stereo.

Depending on the stereo you have - I did a direct connect to the two audio inputs on the rear of my stereo. Ran the power from the cigarette plug rear. That will give you CD quality sound. Using the FM modulator/converter just gives you sound quailty to a good FM station.
The same direct connection can be used in your home stereo. Just remember to adjust you line output volume in your XM unit.
I have a Sirius tuner and ran my magnetic antenna through the 3rd brake light on my 04 CC, I put a little bit of clear silicone around the light and wire and have had no leaks,, I put the antenna about 6 inches from the light and works fine,,
OK, guess I'm going to thru the brake light. Guess since no one has mentioned paint getting damaged I won't worry about that. I have the stock radio so I guess my last decission to make is throught the tape or FM.
If you have a supercab, pop out the back of the back seat. (Pull it up, then out) Behind it, there's vent holes to the outside, which wires can be fed thru, to a mag mount on the roof. Only downside is the exposed wire running up the back of the cab.

Mine's out the brakelight too. No issues. Truck is black, so nothing much shows. Plus, I have a shell, so no one can even see the tiny antenna unless they are 8' tall!
Terk makes an on glass antenna XM-11. Retails about $20.00. Works like the old on glass cell phone antennas. Also you don't have to worry about your paint or where to run the wire outside. only a 6" mast!
