Hey guys,
I have a 95 Ford F-150,5.8, E4OD, ext cab, 4x4, dual tanks with 188,000 miles. The truck has started to stall or almost stall at idle. I have taken the truck to a local mechanic. He ran a code check. Came back with EGR valve. He cleaned it & it ran some better. But, the truck still wants to stall.
He checked the fuel line pressure. The front pump was 30 psi and the back was 27 psi. He said the spec was 35-40 psi.
Do I need to replace the fuel pumps? Whats the best way to get to the fuel pumps? Drop the tanks or remove the bed?
Well, if the truck runs ok except at an idle, I wouldn't replace the pumps just yet. I would suspect a bad IAC valve on the throttlebody. (Idle Air Control) It controls the idle speed and when they age, they get sluggish and cause a poor idle.
I usually drop the tanks to replace pumps.
