Exclamation 2.9 water pump replacement

I am replacing the water pump in my 90 Bronco ll 2wd. I have drained the cooling system, removed the radiator and fan cover. I am having trouble getting the belts off. I have A/C and power steering. What do I need to loosen and how to get the belts off? If some one can walk me through this I would appreciate the help. I can't find my manual.

Well i got good news for ya... you dont hafta loosen any of em. Just undo the four bolts on the water pump pulley and you can wiggle it out. Before you do that you need to get a special fan clutch wrench from autozone or somewhere like that. It uses a thin 1 1/2 inch (i think) wrench that actually goes around all four bolts on the pulley and another not quite so big wrench to actually turn the nut on the fan clutch. After that you just take out the four bolts off the pulley and wiggle it out. Then you undo the 12 bolts on the water pump, clean the area, put a new gasket and some gasket sealer and put it all back together.

Question

I have the special wrench set from Autozone, but I still have tension on the belts. I can see how I could get the pump off as you say, but don't I still need to put tension on the alternator, power steering and AC compressor belts after I replace the water pump? I can’t seem to find the right bolts to do this for each.

From memory

The alternator has two bolts to loosen. One attached to a bracket that attches to the front of the engine and the top of the alt.. Just loosen the bolt, 15mm I think. There is a shaft with a sleve below the alternator. Using the same size socket, loosen it slightly the alt. should now be movable. The bolt head is accessible from firewall side of alt.

PS pump is a little more difficult. There are 4 bolts that need loosening, then there is a tension bold that allows you to tighten the whole assembly. Loosen all the bolts that look like they slide in elongated holes, then loosend the tension bolt.

Take note of your belt tension before starting, dont over tighten, which is a common mistake we all make. LOL

Thanks to everyone for the input.

After 200 + miles, B2 running smooth, cool and quiet (well quieter ) with new

water pump, new v-belts, new lower radiator hose, flush, 50/50 coolant and several skinned knuckles and curse words!
