I have a 94 E250 inline 6 300 cid. I have to crank it twicw or 3 times to get it to start when the truck is cold or when it sits for about 3 hours or so. When its warm it starts right up. The fuel pump does run when I turn the key, but makes a loud whine. I have not checked the fuel pressure on the pump yet.
It runs so well under load that I dont think it would be the pump. Fuel pressure regulator maybe? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.
Hello Flashman - I have the same problem. Mine refuses to start cold, I spray start fluid in the air tubes, or pour gas in the air tubes to get it started cold. Shop couldn't find the problem.
The pump could be bleeding off back into the tank. Try turning the key on and off a couple of times before starting and see if building up pressure in the lines helps it start easier.
Thanks for the interest - I've mounted a fuel pressure guage to get readings. The regulator is working properly. It holds pressure when pump stops, builds to 35 psi to start/run, increases 10 psi on 0 vacuum.
I left it in a shop today (again) for diagnosis. Mech was to remove an injector, send out for a flow test.
