Sloppy gear selector
77 F-100 Automatic, my gear selector once put into any gear will move either way about 1/4", obviously something in the column is worn out but what is it and are parts available

No...you shouldn't have to tear out the column. Look on the column under the dash for the assembly. It probably has a few wires coming out of it. You will see it move when you move the shifter, that is how you know you have the right thing.
