I have a 1999 f350 with 7.3 and auto trans. My question is, will I damage the transmission by pulling the truck about 20 miles to have the starting problem fixed?
no, you'll have to either take out the driveshaft. or unhook the rear of it at the
u joints and tie it up higher than the pinion yoke.(so it doesn't beat up the back
of the driveshaft). Oh & altho u know, i'll say it anyways take out the u-joint
after unhooking the driveshaft. I would do all of this if it were mine, I don't actually
know if 20 miles would hurt the tranny, but i do know on long trips you have to
do this procedure.
Or even a 4x4 really - just make sure the hubs are unlocked. If you're gonna flat tow it - I dunno. I think I'd probably go with what Dieselstroke said if it were my truck.
Or if you can get it started one time you could leave it idling while you tow it. But if it would start, you wouldn't need to tow it, would you? Ummmm.... Nevermind.
