The fuel gauge on my 2002 F250 seems to hang constantly. When I first crank it up, it reads accurately, but, afte going a few miles it will start to waver then drop drastically. Anyone have this problem before.
Do you live in a area of the country that was affected by the gasoline additive screwup a few months ago? Whatever they added to the gasoline messed up some sending units. Not saying this is your problem but it is worth looking in to.

I just went through this problem. My sender wore out - just the age of it. Acted sort of like you describe. I replaced it in March.
In June the sender was exposed to the bad gas problem. The sympton for this is the guage reads FULL or starts irratic beahvior when the tank is actually near empty. I had it replaced again. Yes 2 senders this year.
I think your description is merely the old age worn out version for the sender.
Takes about 3 hours and the sender at FORD is about $60.
While you have tank down might as well replace the pump.
