i am going to put a susp lift on my 1978 4x4 and was wondering about a 4 or 6 inch lift? do you have to do anything to the steering on a 4 inch lift? i think i would on a 6 inch for sure? i will be running 33's no larger. not alot of 4 wheeling done but some. hard to choose, any suggestions, 4 or 6 ......
Based on the info I've read, a 4" lift will allow you to run 35's or 36's with plenty of clearance. The 79' at Offroad.com runs 35's with a 4" Superlift and still has plenty of room for articulation. So if you are gonna run 33's, i'd say a 4" will be just fine.
I am running a '79 with 33x12.50s and no lift at all. I take it off road and have had the truck articluated and have not had any fender contact yet. So I would say if you are going to lift 4" would be fine.

my 79 bronco has 4" and 33s under it and there is more than enough room, all my steering is stock but has lots of play and my tie rod is bent so i wouldnt know what its supposed to steer like. after i get a new box, steering shaft, and tie rod ill probably put a drop pitman arm and trac bar bracket. around here ive seen a few 78/79s with 33s and no lift
check out my gallery ive got a 4" sky jacker and 35 12.50s and the fit and look nice and it redes like a lincoln goin down the highway at even over 70+ it dont have any offroad miles on it thoug since the resto and wont get any ether.
I actually had 35" Mud T/A's on my '78 F150 with no lift for a few days.
I was moving the tires and lift from a parts truck...
After I put the front lift coils (2.5" I think) on there was plenty of room up front and it drove fine. I never got around to the rear add aleafs when I sold it.
33's should fit with no lift, especially if you are not off roading much. Put them on, and then see what you think. If you need more room, maybe 2.5" lift coils up front and an add-a-leaf in the rear. That should be cheap, and work just fine.
