if this thread gets moved to the tranny forum i'll understand i just didn't know in which one to ask. my truck is a 351m with a 4-speed manual trans. i dont know the gear ratio in the back but it's a dana 60 axle.
i dont use 1st unless towing. so for me it's: 2nd=0 to 25, 3rd=25 to 40/45, and 4th=45 to 75. well im sure i could get past 75 but the sound makes me feel like the engine is trying to escape by leaping out of the truck! just curious as i am going by sound and feel.(no tach)
I think your shift ranges are about right... I have the manual 4-speed in an '84 F-150 with a 302 and also an '80 F-350 with a rebuilt 400... neither have tachs... I shift around the same range... it seems like when you hit enough rpms, you can feel the gear range run out to where you shift or blow it up... both trucks have 3.55 gears with 33" tires
