My '04 F-150/w Dark Show Grey Clearcoat looks great,as it should since it's new. If and when the clearcoat starts to deteriorate what should I expect to see. Is clearcoat a seperate layer and will it become blotched or worn thru in some areas or will just normal paint fading occur without other appearance problems ?
You shouldn't have any problems as long as you take a few steps to protect the finish.
Wash it when needed, don't use a sponge or dish soap, use a wash mit and a good car wash soap. Also use a good wax a couple times a year. Clean off any bird droppings ASAP, they can stain. That should keep your truck looking new for a long time.
Thanks-Triton, finally got a response. I've never really owned anything with clearcoat. I do take very good care of my vehicles-by personally washing and waxing them carefully (also garage them when possible). I just thought that in the past years some of the clearcoat finishes didn't last or look that well after a while, but maybe these problems have been eliminated now.
Just about all vehicles have a basecoat/clearcoat finish now. Its actually better than the old finishes. With a clearcoat, you can sand out (small) scratches and swirl marks and then buff them out. Of course I don't recomend this unless you're a pro.
