96 Ford Explorer 4.0
What would have made the oil pump fail when we were putting water in the radiator. We run the vehicle about 10 miles at a moderate to high temp and the temperature reached the red mark as we pulled into the service center. As we were putting water in the radiator the valve started to rattle and the oil pressure went to zero. There is no water in the oil and the engine still cranks but no oil pressure.
Is there any drive components on the oil pump that may have failed? We are going to change the oil pump and just want to know what else we need to look for prior to putting the oil pan back on.
We do need to replace the water pump at this time that was the main problem.
