I am retiring my 86 f-350 and buying a new one. My dilemma is do I buy a new 2004 at a much reduced price or buy a 2005 no discount. I will be buying a crew cab, 4wd with the 6.0 diesel.
Does the benefits of the redesign 2005 out way the price reduction of a 2004? What are your thoughts?
Only thing we can tell you is to go and test drive both and see which you like better. Getting a truck you hate at a discount is worse than getting a truck you love at full price. Also, if you want some uncommon opitons then you might have to get a 05 from the factory.
FULL PRICE? What are you guys talking about? If I can sell them here on FTE for $500 below invoice, surely you can find a dealer near you that will discount a 2005. Subliminal has the best advice, though: drive both and decide for yourself, and don't settle for something you won't be happy with.
When I said full price, I meant without any rebates that are now avalable on 2004's. I know the looks of the 2005 will help me to decide one way or the other. I was kinda looking for more techno information. Since its a redesign do you think it will have more problems? I have always heard you should never buy the first year of something they have made major changes on. But someone has too.
When buying a new car/truck, you really need to test drvie the hell out of it before you sign the papers to make sure there arent any problems.
Changes include but are not limited to:
*coil over instead of leafsprings
*brake controller from factory with i think tow package
*new grill, dash and minor cosmetic changes
*5.4l is the same as the 04 f-150
*6.0l is uprated in torque and HP
*towing and payload are also increased.
There will always be a "newer" model out there. If you buy an '05, I am sure in '06 there will be something else "newer and better" than the '05. The '04 is a great truck and with the rebates, it's hard to pass up. If you need a truck now, figure out your budget and buy what fits. Then stop watching the new Ford ads and reading about what you could have had and enjoy what you bought. If Ford didn't make newer and better things each year, everyone would just keep their old trucks and Ford would go out of business. Anyway, my .02 worth.
By the way, I bought an '04, so I may be a little biased. Deal started $8000 below MSRP. Dealer gave me $2000 over NADA trade in value on my 99 GMC. I figure I got about 10,000 off MSRP and a fair value for my trade. I am happy and I guess that's what is important. F250, 6.0, CC, Lariat, 4x4.

Thats what is all comes down too! Being HAPPY!
So I agree what was said above, go check them both out and think it over, and after you make your decision, don't look back..
