To adjust the shoes out do both ratchet adjustments move from the bottom to the top or does one adjust top to bottom? I really dont want to pull the shoes off to see right now. Please help if you can
To be safe you need a special tool, it looks like a large Caliper. You measure the drum the other side slips over the shoes and you set the shoes to it. If you've ever locked up the brakes on just one side you'll never take the short cut again.

boy, you got me thinking i just went through this on my boat trailer, i think they go in different directions. i cranked them one way for a while and if the pads didnt start dragging i went the other way. sorry i couldnt be more help
i just adjusted them until you could hear them drag a little and they were fine
