Newbie here. Just bought a 92 F-150 Super Cab long bed with towing package, 3.55 gears, 302, AOD tranny. Tires are in good shape on the truck, but are passenger tires. I'll be pulling a small 2-horse bumper pull horse trailer with 2 horses (trailer and horses weigh about 4800 to 5000).
I'd like to replace the passenger tires with some LT tires that are a bit stiffer. Thinking of going with load level C or D (don't think I really need Es).
Any good recommendations in mid-priced tires for the new old F150? I also need some that will give me halfway decent traction in snow.
I am very picky about tires and found a great tire at a moderate price. Its the BFG Commercial T/A. I have a set of 235/75-15 XLs on my van and love them. They are rated C in that size and handle heavy loads and towing very well. I pull a 4800 lb trailer with my van and these have proven themselves to be better than the OE Goodyear Wranglers and at least the equivelant of the Michelins I had before them. Ride, handling are wear are all excellent too.
The only place I have seen them is Sam's club. I paid $68 each plus mounting and balancing there.
Over the years I've had about every brand possible and some were good, some fair and some just down right trash. The last 3 sets I've bought have been Kelly Springfields and have all went 50k miles or better, worked well on the wet roads, got me through snow storms in fine shape and never given me a problem. I balance and rotate every 5k miles.
