I went to a truck shop today and got 4" piping, a 30 degree elbow, 3 clamps and a reducer to make a straight pipe for my 96, well all that was 76 dollars. i figured thats not too bad, a downpipe is 85 on ebay and a tip can't be more then 20. Well I was looking and tips are like 60 bucks for a SS one. It will be about 230 to make my own straight pipe system and its 250 for a 4" turbo back system with 3" downpipe and a 5" SS tip that exits behind the rear wheel. Should i return this stuff and just buy the system? Like i was thinking I'll have to make some kind of hanger system for the straight pipe too where the system comes with hangers and all.
The package price of the kits is pretty good, and they're already pre-measured. My son-in-law has a kit exhaust system, and everything went together well. Also, the clamps have provisions for using the existing hangers.
I'd give some thought to getting the kit.
Hopefully the shop will let you return what you bought. Otherwise you may have to cut off the existing hangers and weld them onto the new system. I think you have a Hypermax DP right Quad? I think I remember you commenting on your happiness with it.

I do have a Hypermax downpipe, and think it's the best one available for those of us with Generation 1 Powerstrokes. It starts as 3" at the EBPV housing, and bells to 3.5" once it clears the firewall. It's got a blunt end on it, with no provision for hooking up the cat, in case you want to. Mine connects to a stock straight through muffler, then two reducers that expand the system from 3.5" to 5". It runs back, over the axle, and ends in a 6" tip.
