2.9L vs. 3.0

I recently read on one of the threads something about the 2.9L engine having more power than the 3.0, and that the 3.0 should have been left in the cars where it belongs. If true, what is it about the 2.9L that gives more ponies than the 3.0 because my 3.0 is a little "doggish".

The 2.9L is a German engine with lots of torque at lower RPM. The 3.0L was designed in OHIO to go into the 86 Taurus with high torque at high RPM. The 2.9L engine cost Ford more money to use than the 3.0L, so the 3.0L was introduced into Ranger 4x2 in 91 and Ranger 4x4 in 93. Closing down 2.9L production meant Ford could produce more 4.0L OHV engines and start production of the 4.0L SOHC with the 97 Explorer.
